Often the problem is that the surface the membrane has been applied to is damp.  In tropical countries it rains almost every day for 6 months.  Often the concrete doesn’t dry sufficiently to apply the membrane to a properly dry surface because everyone is pressured to get the job done.  When that happens, the membrane may adhere for several months or even years, but ultimately it will fail.  As the moisture comes out of the concrete, it can cause bubbling on the surface and ultimately delamination. The only way to fix it?  Remove it and start again. This is one of the most common causes of membrane failure and a significant reason why they have such a relatively short lifespan.

Very often clients and waterproofers are frustrated with leaks originating from the inevitable failure of membranes or brushed waterproofing that went wrong. When membranes fail, they cause big problems that take time and money to repair properly. The structure is leaking water, and they are obliged to do the waterproofing all over again. Break the screed, remove the debris, remove the membranes, and dispose of them responsibly. Then install a new membrane. Plus a new screed. And pay for all this. Again!
