The case for waterproofing car parks

Car parks are constantly exposed to extreme conditions: heavy wear and abrasion from loads and tyres, temperature variations, moisture and constant oil and chemical spills.

Waterproofing and concrete protection aren’t just things to think about when building long-lasting rooftop and multi-level car parks; they’re necessary parts of the structure that will endure a long time and cost less to maintain. That’s where CWS100 comes in. 

In some cases, consultants elect to waterproof car parks and in other cases they don’t.  This is always a factor of cost.  Nobody can argue that without some form of protection of the concrete, water can seep into the structure, eventually make its way to the rebar which can cause the rust to expand and eventually end up with spalling of the concrete.  This will obviously result in very serious consequences for the long-term future of the structure.

It is extremely fast to apply.  Whereas one person applying the membrane can only do about 75 m² per day, one person applying CWS100 can do up to 6000 m² in a day.

It is trafficable virtually immediately which makes it perfect for restoration of older decks whereby it can be kept open whilst the work is being carried out.

If oil or other chemicals are left on the surface it prevents them soaking in to the concrete itself and therefore it is very easy to remove.  This protects the owners asset’.

It does not require any form of protection such as a screed.

It is way cheaper than a trafficable membrane.

Not only does CWS100 ensure life-time water proofing, it also presents no change to the slip resistance of the surface, which is an important safety factor for rooftop car parks, especially under rainy conditions.

Furthermore, it increases concrete hardness to Grade 9 on Mohs scale, which is much harder than granite (8 on Mohs scale), protecting the concrete surface against mechanical abrasion from the wear of tyres and rolling loads.
